Hokohoko Shop Concept
The Hokohoko Shop & Community Hub is a kaupapa inspired by manaakitanga and collective wellbeing. It was born from observing the growing challenges our whānau face in accessing affordable essentials — clothing, household goods, and everyday items — alongside the increasing waste and surplus in our communities.
The Hokohoko concept brings these two realities together in a positive, sustainable way. It’s more than just a shop; it’s a local hub where whānau can access good-quality, second-hand goods at low or koha-based prices, while contributing to a circular economy that values reuse, repair, and community exchange.
Grounded in the principles of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and kaitiakitanga, the Hub will also provide a space for connection — a place where people can give what they can, take what they need, and share skills and stories. It is designed to uplift whānau dignity, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen the bonds that hold our community together.
As this kaupapa grows, it will become a foundation for future initiatives that support food security, community education, and local enterprise. The Hokohoko Shop embodies NUOMRKH’s commitment to practical, values-led action — restoring balance between people, place, and prosperity.
